1st Place for Patrick!

Patrick Devine-Wright took 1st place in the 2021 East Devon Round ultra-marathon trail race, finishing the distance of about 100km with approximately 3000m of climb in 11 hours and 46 minutes. A friendly yet challenging event, the route included local highlights such as Danes Hill above Dalwood, the Undercliff between Lyme Regis and Seaton, and Blackbury camp and was run in weather that varied from sunny heat to chilly hail showers. Plaudits to race organiser Alisdair Moffett for mitigating the race’s carbon emissions by having one tree planted for each competitor.

Sarah Whelan won the May edition of the AVR 4K handicap race beating her PB by 1 min 5 sec taking 26m 35s. David Cooke was 2nd, 20m 9s; Alan Morbey 3rd, 19m 56s, Andrew Hartnell 4th, 19m21s and Paula Cooke 5th, 26m 5s. Pam Goddard now leads the standings with 72 points, very closely followed by Eleanor Wood and Shirley Salter both on 71, Sarah Wheelan is 4th, 64 points and Richard Matthews 5th, 63 points. The first 9 competitors beat their PB for their own 4K route.
